Grameen Charcha

GRAMEEN CHARCHA

From Listening to Collective Action

Overview

Grameen Charcha is Atmashakti’s flagship people-led rural dialogue platform that transforms listening into collective action. Emerging from the Indigenous Yatra, it brings together farmers, women’s collectives, youth, community leaders, government, and civil society to co-create solutions rooted in Indigenous knowledge and lived realities. It is a space where village voices become shared insights, and insights turn into action, shaping pathways for climate resilience, livelihoods, and community wellbeing.

Why it matters

Rural India is at a turning point, facing climate-related stress, livelihood challenges, and the weakening of traditional systems.

Grameen Charcha responds by:

  • Putting communities at the centre
  • Recognising Indigenous knowledge as evidence
  • Enabling dialogue between Samaj, Sarkar, and Bazaar

What it does

Village voices - Dialogue - Shared learning - Action

Grameen Charcha moves beyond consultation to co-creation and commitment

How it works

  • Immersion: Field visits and community listening
  • Dialogue: Panels, workshops, and consultations
  • Focus Areas: Ecology, Economy, Emotions

Key Outcome

People’s Action Charter

A collective framework that reflects community priorities and guides action, policy, and partnerships.

Impact

  • Strengthens community leadership
  • Enables grassroots innovation
  • Builds cross-sector collaboration
  • Shifts development from top-down to co-created systems

Grameen Charcha is not an event. It is a process where villages move from being heard to shaping their own future.
