Grassroots change, led by the communities it serves
Registered in 1995 and actively working since 2009, Atmashakti Trust is a rights-based non-profit committed to empowering marginalized communities — particularly tribal, Dalit, women, and economically vulnerable populations — across India.
Our story
Atmashakti — meaning "power of the soul" — reflects our belief that the strength of a community lies in its collective spirit. Registered in 1995 and actively working since 2009, we have been channeling this inner power to unite and empower marginalized communities, with a focus on reaching a meaningful share of the rural poor, especially among Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes.
Since its inception, Atmashakti Trust has worked to promote sustainable livelihoods, food and nutrition security, gender equality, community leadership, social justice, and inclusive governance. We believe lasting change happens when communities lead it themselves.
Through community mobilization, capacity building, research, advocacy, and collective action, we strengthen the voices and agency of marginalized communities — enabling them to participate meaningfully in decisions that affect their lives.
Our approach
We work closely with community institutions, local governments, civil society organizations, and development partners to address systemic inequalities and create lasting social change.
