Celebrating 15 Years of Collective Action and Impact
Sustainable Agriculture Awards
We received Sustainable Agriculture Awards under community engagement and social impact category for our Brown to Green Mission.
Our “Brown to Green” Mission relies upon five pillars: mobilizing and organizing farmers, timely procurement and distribution of seeds, training, and hand holding of farmers, and participation and support of various stakeholders. Regarding sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture our organization has pioneered community mobilization, leading to significant policy changes. In Odisha, to counter migration and ensure livelihood for tribal and marginal farmers at their native places we mobilized over one lakh farmers to utilize rice fallow land for a second crop. By collaborating with the government and other stakeholders, we facilitated access to seeds, resulting in increased income—an additional ₹15,000 per farmer—and improved nutrition for children, with 50% of them being malnourished in the areas we serve.
Our mission, “Brown to Green,” is now expanding to three more states such as Chattisgarh, Jharkhand and eastern Madhya Pradesh, aiming to reach 10 lakh marginalized farmers. This mission is not just about reversing the equation; it’s about shifting the gear and empowering communities to transition from being recipients to becoming self-sustainable farmers who live with dignity.
Award by OSCPCR
‘Mo Chatashali’ education initiative was awarded for helping underprivileged children in Odisha by the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) in its 11th Foundation Day which was held at KIIT Auditorium in the city.
Launched by the non-profit Atmashakti Trust and its allies Mahila Shramajeebee Mancha Odisha and Odisha Shramajeebee Mancha, the initiative has helped over 1 lakh children from across 17 districts of Odisha during the pandemic time which is mostly represented by Tribals, Dalits and other marginalised communities.
“Children from the rural areas in the state, during the lockdown, were mostly deprived of the state government’s online education platforms due to the lack of digital access and for most of them, Chatashali was the only source of learning for them. This recognition, I believe, is an outcome of a collective effort by parents, volunteer-teachers and villagers which will encourage our team and Sangathan members to reach out to even more children in distress and help bring them to the forefront of education”, Ms Ruchi Kashyap, Executive Trustee of Atmashakti Trust said after receiving the award.
